Sarah arrived, as instructed, in the company’s reception lobby at exactly 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon. The security guard checked her name on the list and sent her up to the governors’ floor. The pretty receptionist behind the big desk there said that Dr Jones’ PA would be around in a minute, asked her to sit and offered her a coffee. Opposite the desk there were two big, low leather sofas and a low table with a selection of the company’s literature carefully laid out. Sarah declined the coffee and waited on one of the sofas, as she had been trained, with her feet placed together, her thighs slightly apart, her back straight and her lips not completely closed.
